Several studies have shown that stretch marks are among the top five causes for insecurity in women. Most women develop stretch marks on their abdomen during pregnancy, however it is also common to get stretch marks on the buttocks, hips, breasts and thighs. In some cases up to 90 percent of women have stretch marks on some part of their body as a result of pregnancy.

Small tears in the epidermal surfaces form because,the underlying tissue is growing faster than the outer skin layers. Scar tissue will appear in the tears this is what causes stretch marks.

Pregnant women will see Stretch marks appear when the abdominal wall grows in size. Women with dark skin tones will see them as lighter colored lines. Women with light skin tones will see them as pink in color.

There are other reasons that a person can get stretch marks to, like gaining a lot of weight. As if the extra weight is not enough to devastate you,then you have stretch marks on top of it. This is a double whammy.

Your skin grows at different rates, so this is understandable why some people have more stretch marks than others. Women are not the only ones to develop stretch marks men and teenagers can get them as well.

There are products sold over the counter to help you strengthen the collagen and elastin in your skin. These are used before and during pregnancy so that you won’t have as many stretch marks. I would shy away from all the adds that say they can make your scars disappear.

Prevention is the key here,using products to help grow your body’s collagen. This will help to make your skin stronger and in turn aid in the elasticity of your skin. You will also find by using these products that if you have old scars they will seem less noticeable.
